Looking for a holistic way to deal with chronic illness?

Trauma can have a significant impact on a person's physical and emotional health, including the development and exacerbation of chronic illnesses. This is because our nervous system often reacts as if the traumatic event is still happening.  Our nervous system, in its brilliance, will respond in an effort to help us get through the event.

Research suggests that individuals who have experienced trauma, particularly in childhood, are at higher risk of developing chronic illnesses later in life, such as heart disease, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders. This may be due to the impact of trauma on the body's nervous system.  When our nervous system is in a state of protection or defense it causes dysregulation in the body as it is focused on helping us to survive.  Over time this dysregulation will lead to a breakdown in other body systems which can lead to chronic illness.

Additionally, trauma can also lead to increased levels of stress and anxiety, which can exacerbate symptoms and interfere with treatment adherence.

It's important for individuals who have experienced trauma and also have a chronic illness to seek appropriate support and care. This may include therapy to address the emotional impact of trauma, as well as medical treatment and management for their chronic illness.

Chiropractic care is a safe and holistic way to bring regulation to the nervous system. By impacting nervous system function chiropractic moves the body from a state of protection or defense to a state of ease where healing and regeneration can occur.
