How connected is your brain and body?

Written By Vitality Chiropractic of the Upstate on March 29, 2023

I'm willing to bet this isn't a question you hear often but it is such an important question.  An awareness of the sensations inside your body is called interoception. Interoception includes things like feeling your stomach rumbling, an awareness that your is bladder is full, if you're breathing is fast/slow, and how your heart is beating (just to give a few examples.)

Interoception works like an internal alarm system.  It brings our attention to our body so that we notice when things have changed; this connection between our brain and body helps to keep us safe and healthy.

The stresses and storms of life have a tendency of leaving our nervous system in a state of protection and defense.  When we are in this protective state our nervous system focuses its regulation on the systems that will keep us upright and moving, basically what we need to survive.  In this survival state we tend to lose our ability to sense what is going on inside of our body, almost like we are existing somewhere outside of ourselves.

Regular chiropractic care helps to influence the nervous system in a way that brings the body from a state of protection towards a state of ease.  It is only in this state of ease that health and healing can occur.

So, if you feel like you aren't as connected to your body as you would like to be why not try chiropractic care!
